Urban Dance Teaching & Learning Programme

uRBAN DANCE teaching & Learning PROGRAMME

This programme will provide participants with foundational concepts and knowledge with regards to teaching and learning Urban Dance (for children and young people). The programme is designed with reference to the Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning (Children and Young People) by Trinity College, London.

1. Course details

  • Course Dates:
    • 5 March - 9 March 2018

  • Fee:
    • Individual Course fee is S$967.00
    • Register AEP Instructors are entitled a 90% *subsidy. Balanced payable of $96.70.
    • Non-AEP registered applicants are entitled to a **discount of $467.00. Balanced payable of $500.00.
    • All payment can be made by Cash or SkillsFuture Credits.
      • Course fees would include course materials.
*Subsidy will be given to the first 20 AEP registered applicant for each programme
**Discount will be given to the first 10 non-AEP registered applicant for each programme
  • Time:
    • 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. (5, 6, 7, 9 March)
    • 12.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. (8 March)
    • Total duration of 40 hours 


Participants must maintain at least 80% attendance for the programme. Participants who satisfy this requirement will be presented a Certificate of Participation.

This course satisfies the minimum formal pedagogy training requirement for instructors wishing to teach NAC-Arts Education Programmes (NAC-AEP) from 2017.

The course would be covering 4 main areas:

1. Psychology of Learning

  • Learning Outcomes:
    • To describe key components of the various learning theories covered
    • To explain the various stages of child development relevant to dance teaching and learning
    • To know and describe anatomical systems

2. Process of Dance Teaching

  • Learning Outcomes:
    • To describe key components of the various teaching styles and strategies
    • To explain dance training principles
    • To demonstrate the use of behaviour management strategies

3. Anatomy of a Dance Programme

  • Learning Outcomes:
    • To describe Gagne’s Theories of Instruction
    • To describe the various components for movement analysis in dance
    • To demonstrate the use of Work Plan Framework
    • To apply Bloom’s taxonomy in lesson objectives formation
    • To construct objectives for dance programmes

4. Assessment and Evaluation

  • Learning Outcomes:
    • To understand the difference between assessment and evaluation
    • To describe the purpose of assessment and evaluation
    • To describe various methods of evaluation
    • To demonstrate the ability to produce a criterion-referenced and grade-related assessment rubric
    • To demonstrate the ability to select appropriate evaluation methods

At the end of the programme, participants would also design and scope a dance programme to be evaluated by the trainers/industry veterans.
